Prior to his role as President and CEO of Cortex, Mr. Smith assembled a 20 year career within the oil & gas, utility, manufacturing, telecommunication, and computer and consulting industries. During that time, Mr. Smith held many senior posts, from Senior Engineer, to CIO/Vice President at TransCanada Pipelines, which make him especially capable of leading Cortex.
Mr. Smith has considerable experience transforming IT organizations to meet the complex business needs of a geographically distributed business. From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Smith guided the evolution of an IT organization from a high cost, low quality, and high risk service provider into a low cost, high quality, responsive and reliable entity. This transformation was accomplished by focusing on business requirements and results, standardizing technologies and solutions, and eliminating unnecessary redundancy and complexity.
